Sebastian Vettel took a dominant victory at the Singapore Grand Prix, holding off a late charge from Jenson Button whose second place ensured Vettel's title is still not confirmed.
The champion elect led away supremely at the start of the race, extending his advantage at more than a second a lap through the early stages. He responded to the potential danger of a safety car period by pulling out a nine second lead within two laps of the restart, and then kept cool as Button closed during the final laps.
Button was a clear second, just 1.7 seconds behind Vettel at the line after pushing hard on supersoft tyres and trying to take advantage of backmarkers to close the gap. Mark Webber was third ahead of Fernando Alonso, with Lewis Hamilton fifth following a clash with Felipe Massa which that earned him a drive-through penalty.
Paul di Resta gained his best result of the season with sixth, ahead of Nico Rosberg, Adrian Sutil, Felipe Massa and Sergio Perez.
